I have an old computer with Windows98 that is currently on line. I have a new computer with WindowsXP that will not accept the same information to get online as the old one. The message after dialing in is that the password or username is incorrect. Both my password and my username are the same as is currently getting my old computer online. Any suggestions?

I am not connecting both computers at once. I disconnect the old one to connect the new one. The new one does have a dial up modem and it does work with another service. The old one connects each time without a hitch and the new one (with the same information) is denied connection saying the password or username is incorrect. Since postin the original question, I've also tried connecting a Windows 98SE laptop with the same info and it does the exact same thing the XP machine does.... it says the password or username is incorrect????
I'm trying to find out about protocols and ISP numbers and so forth but so far nothing seems to work. I thought perhaps some vital difference in the Windows versions was the culprit. Thanks for your suggestions.

i suggest you disconnect the old one. use only one connection for one pc per time. the causes maybe conflict come from the multiple IP address requesting connection from the ISP using same username and password. or maybe the ISP does not allow it unless for multiple pc you have to build some network on your own..well then i hope it help...

Ok, when you connect on the old computer, do you logout on the site you are on? Cuz is you do not LOG OUT you could not LOG IN, with another computer. And that seems to be the problem you are having. So being on the old one, then just unplugging it to connect to the other computer may have you still logged on the old computer.. But go to the computer store and they can show you what you need to have both computers plugged in the same time and same line. Also, try this. Make a new account with your new computer and then see if you can log in with your old one. Make another new account with old one to see if you can log in with new one. Silly but try it. You may like it. lol

Are you disconnecting when you switch to your XP machine? Are you sure the modem is installed and has correct drivers? Are you trying to dial in to the same service as your other computer?
