How much does it generally cost to get a tailor to put a new zipper put in a pair of pants? Mine is broken :(

I don't know, but if you're willing to try and fix them yourself, here's a suggestion: If the zipper came off the track, turn the pants inside out and remove the stitches around the bottom of the current zipper until both sides of the zipper are apart from the pants, roughly an inch from the bottom up. Starting at the bottom, put the zipper pull on (just as you would to zip up a coat). Once it is on, zip it up about half way, then take a needle and thread and use it to make several loops around the bottom half inch of the zipper to keep the zipper from opening up from the bottom, then re-attach the zipper to the pants with a few simple stitches. I've done this procedure on pants, purses, skirts, and coats, and saved the cost of a tailor or buying a new item! Good luck!

I used to get this done at the drycleaners for about $5. but thats been awhile. For a creative alternative you could check with a local high school that has a home ec dept. One of the students might do it for free???
