I am more put off by it than offended, it is simply impolite

I doubt that it is just ladies who get offended by harsh language. It shows a huge amount of disrespect. Not only for the person who has to listen but for the person who is using harsh language. If you are with your friends and that's what you want to do well great, but, if you are around others why not try to use some manners. You share the planet with others besides yourself, it is simply helping the process of peaceful coexistence. Anyway, it's pretty ignorant sounding... makes people wonder if you lack education, culture, intelligence and good old manners.

Though this era may be already modern and exhalted with liberal ways of thinking, the age-old standards of good manners and right conduct are still upheld by quite a surprising number of people throughout the globe. Do remember that there are reasons why some old practices/traditions still live today - and that is because society still thinks of these as something still good and worth preserving. So why do some ladies see harsh language as vile? Simple. Good manners are one of the things being taught to us since age-old times. They are there for a reason and that reason is because good manners are still worth living up to no matter how "modern" the times may be.

If cussing is what men think as something showing their machismo or virility, well they ought to think again. Ladies, and I mean ladies who are reputable and not the ones mistaken for cheap hookers, still prefer decency above all. So for those potty-mouths out there: think twice before cussing in front of a lady.

Rude and crude is just plain rude and crude in any day and age. If a person can't get his/her point across without a string of f-bombs they show a lack of intelligent thought, a lack of comprehension, and a lack of consideration. Such a person cannot expect to be taken seriously. I am not a lady, I am a gentleman, and do not tolerate harsh, abusive, or vulgar language from visitors to the professional office work in. Many people think language is evolving, but, in truth, manners are devolving.

Well, first of all, why shouldn't we? Foul language is rude in ANY day or age. "Ladies", as you call us, believe that while foul language is understandable when used rarely, it shows a lack of vocabulary and what you would probably call "gangsta" talk. We think that if someone is like, "What's up *****?" or "Fck you" or even "Dude, you're so full of shet" it is rude and impolite. Think of it this way. You're talking to your girlfriend's mom or your dad or someone. They say something hat you don't believe in. Would you respond, "Fck you"? No? Well, women believe that they should have the same level of respect from you that you give to your elders. If you're asking to understand women and their actions, even I can't really explain. We all act differently, some of us are bold and out-right, others are hard to comprehend.

Neither of my parents cussed so I didn't grow up around it. Personally, I'm offended by bad language because it is unneeded and there are far more intelligent ways to verbally convey one's thoughts or feelings. Too many people show a lack of restraint when it comes to curse words and far too few reserve such words for sudden, intense pain or shock.

Many men as well as women can be offended by some of the language presented on this site.

Offensive language only shows an extreme poverty of vocabulary.

G'day Pat t,

Thank you for your question.

Do you mean the use of swear words or abuse which are not necessarily the same thing?

Regarding swearing, much of it is witless and used in the wrong circumstances. Knowing that there is a time and place for different types of language is part of growing up.

Regards abusive language, much of it is uncalled for and can be handled much better. Courtesy to each other is part of a civilised society.

Regards

Language is an art - art reflects your own taste - do you want to paint a Rembrandt, or stick men?
