I guess I'm old. I didn't know all these other people sang it. It was origanally recorded by Peter, Paul, and Mary in the late 60's or early 70's.
John Denver wrote it and later recorded it after Peter, Paul, and Mary. IT is a song that sticks in your mind.

John Denver wrote the song in 1967 and the Chad Mitchell Trio recorded it that year. It became a hit however when Peter, Paul and Mary recorded it in 1969. John Denver sang it too and it is on his first album, Rhymes and Reasons which came out in 1969.
