Try rubbing alcohol or a product like spray and wash. Spray on the marker and leave for a couple of minutes. You may have to do it more than once. If you have one of those little "Magic Erasers" that Mister Clean makes and rub gently after wetting it, it will also get it off.

My son decided to write on a lot of different surfaces with a lot of different materials, and I have found that the "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser" works well for *most* of the marks. Without damaging the finish on your desk, it's a pretty safe place to start. I have also tried a rubber stamp cleanser called "StayzOn Remover" when I deal with permantent ink. It sometimes works, too. Oh the joy of young artists!

Mineral spirits and elbow grease. I had to do this on a synthesizer keyboard that a friend had written on when I had sold him the keyboard for a while. Caution: it might cause some of the finish of the desk to come off, so be careful!

There's a product called "greased lightning" that you can pick up at Wal-Mart or Lowe's.
This stuff is awesome!
I couldn't tell you how many times I've had marker and ink pen on my cream colored kitchen counters......always comes off with this product.
I also use this product to remove stains on clothing and carpet. It removes soap scum from the shower/tub. It removes grease from cooking splatters.

If it's a "Sharpie" brand, rubbing alcohol will remove it from any smooth surface.

Possibly try nail polish remover. It may sound dumb, but when you think about it, it is pretty strong.
