Yeah. It will only be awkward if you let it. If he says no then fine. Next time you see them say Hi and chit chat. Then the awkwardness is gone. Both of you will feel more at ease. Yeah it takes some guts but once you do it, you'll feel better. Atleast I do.

I ask them out to casual activities, such as shopping or coffee. I never call them "dates" which leads guys to invite me out but they do the same thing so it's frustrating because I never know if I'm dating or just hanging out with a male friend, but I'm so old-fashioned I want to hear the word "date" from them first...

Well, I didn't ask him out, my friend did and he just hung up. Then his friend told me that he said no and then I'm like, okay whatever. Then a month later he mentions it, but kinda in a secret-ish way. Then a week later he asked ME out, so it turned out fine.

So what....If he says no than it isn't meant to be and then you can move on. Your best bet is to go for it. You will have to get your feelings out eventually.
