While I try not to stereotype, I think it's entirely possible. There will always be something or someone that is different from the rest of a set "group" that will make them stand out. Should that person leave an impression on you, chances are, regardless of whether your feelings completely change over that stereotype, your perception will at least be altered from the contact with the person in question.

I think in general people have stereotypes about every ethnicity. I personally dont really believe in all the stereotypes. but i do think that some stereotypes about races are funny including my own and i am trinidanian(black). but i know for a fact that some people have a general stereotype when it comes to black people. I have dated outside my race plenty of times and when they first met me they had all these negative thought about me. but when they got to know me their whole perception of me changed. So yes i do believe one person can change a person's view on a particular stereotype.

Yes, my boyfriend did.

I grew up being told that African American people were lazy, stupid and basically the dregs of society. I never doubted what I was told but I was not as militant about this belief ad my Dad and some of my siblings.

Then I met my boyfriend who is AA and truly one of the hardest working, smartest, kindest and best people ever. His entire family is filled with well educated, upstanding and all around good people. I hope we get married and have a beautifully blended family. I'd be honored to be his wife and have his children.

My father lied to me. He still believes those lies too. It's very sad.

i believe one person can change a stereotype-if someone thinks all people in one specific group are alike and then they meet someone who goes against the prejudice they placed upon that group i believe their view would change forever--ofcourse im disappointed that more people dont realize that this is common sense-everyone isnt alike no matter how alike they are...

I never follow stereotypes, never generalize. Prejudice is what causes sterotypes and I have no prejudice whatsoever. I judge people singularly, not by their origin, race, or religion, just by what they do, how they act. An individual is what he/she does. Peace.

TD is totally right. There are good & bad in all groups & it would take a close minded idiot not to see that there are good people in every race & religion
