Well, if there was no person they couldn't be depressed. But if it wasn't for depressing situations the person might not get depressed. But the person must see (and feel) the situation as depressing, so it seems to be a colabritive effort. But you have to have both don't you? #1 The person who get's depressed and #2 the thing that makes them depressed. I don't see that blame or where a fault lies has any relevance. Depression is like any sickness. Focus on the fix - not on blaming the person or past events that can't be changed.
If fault is to be placed, it might be put on the neuro chemicals that trigger and sustain depression. That's where anti depresants come in. They (often) stop the process and act to help lift the dark clouds. If a pill can be given credit for eliminating depression, then I guess the brain chemicals that cause it can be blamed. But I'm not so sure the person, his or herself, is to blame really. It's just the way nature works. Blame society or friends and family for not giving support. Sometimes that's the bigger problem.

No, its his fault as much as it is a person who is withdrawn from being beaten on a intermittent basis. Being classified as depressed is too vague to serve any helping function. This is a interesting question because it get to the question of how much does the environment cause behavior and if you do single-subject designs and isolate consequences and responses it becomes pretty obvious. Yet today the dogma is that you are not just a physical entity but possess not a brain "a mind" and many psychic states comparable to the early studies of alchemy and Aristotlole physics. such that a objects want to lay at rest. so the objects is responsible for moving toward the earth. A realistic understanding of cause and effect and lawfulness in all matter living and non-living will come slowly. Until then the depressed person will feel guilty for being a Depressed Person. Etched in stone.

YES! Depression comes from stagnation. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as a person doesn't feel that forward trajectory of the thing that they're associated with, depression kicks in. The interesting thing about depression is that the very moment that “thing” begins moving, depression goes right out of the window. To not claim fault for depression is to not acknowledge and confront the very thing that you’re depressed about. It’s only with acknowledgement and acceptance can you face depression and find a remedy for that depressing state of depression. Those that hang onto depression, keeps depression. Have you every been around a depressed person and when you’re finish chatting with them, you too now feel depress? It is the exchange of energy, now you the helping hand have now lost your vigor. Now, Have you ever been around someone depressed and you cheer them right up? It again is an exchange of energy, and because you choose not to remain stagnant, you do not remain stagnant, therefore whatever was kepping the depressed depress, your energy has now unplugged that clog. Finally, have you ever spoken with someone depressed and by the time you’re finish with them, they’re happy and back to normal, and you’re now in a state of depression. It is the transference of energy one again. If you’ve known a person to be depressed, especially because of there own mental outlook on things, chances are, that person is always in the depressed mode. You’ve now become a fresh neck for them to suck on when they’re good and ready, they’ve become energy vampires, be very careful. A happy and productive person is never a depressed person. Same thing in the case of a loss one. The knowing that there is nothing we can do to bring back or feel this person’s energy is what throws us in a state of depression. (Stagnation) It is only until we acknowledge and accept can we unblock that clog and move forward. Life places us in some very interesting predicaments, it is up to us to find the lesson and see the beauty of each circumstance. If we allow the emotions to take sole control, we will find that we have no control. (Don’t miss the lesson)

Sometimes depression is a result of the persons own bad choices.
Sometimes it is caused by other peoples input.
There are many causes, but the most common is chemical imbalance.
Diet, medication and therapy are alternative treatments, but there is no single solution to the problem.
The best method of controlling or eliminating depression is to take the bull by the horns.
Eg; Try new things. Get out of your environment. Give your room a makeover. Change the colours you wear etc etc

Depending on the topic. If out of a relationship, maybe. But if symptom was found medically, no, because we know that depression is caused by a lack of serotonin. The dendtries of a neuron are not able to recieve the amount of this neurotransmitter like it should. And, there are other reasons for depression.

Depression is an illness, a disease. I believe that everyone has to find their own way of coming out of it though. Whether it be diet and exercise, or medication and counseling or a combination of all of the above, it needs treated. If you ignore the symptoms, it can worsen! Try not to confuse depression with having a bad day or use it as an excuse not to achieve your best life. Help is there if you want it! Good Luck!

Most of the time, no, but in some cases people choose to be depressed because that's all they've known for so long. They define themselves by their depression. In a sense, it becomes part of their identity. I know it's easier said then done, but to no longer be depressed, they must make a choice to be happy each day they wake up and completely let go of old thought patterns. Otherwise, they may end up wasting their entire lives being miserable.

perhaps if you put this question in the health category, i would answer no.
but since it's in philosophy, i guess you are trying to ask whether the mind can overcome depression. and for me, yes. the mind make things exist. it may not make something extinct but it can at least have another thing replace something like depression with a more optimistic view,
so if a mind lets itself be down, it is the person's choice and control.
