Absolutely not. Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Sometimes this imbalance is triggered by stress or emotional factors. If you think you may be depresses I would suggest you see a doctor right away and there are several medications that can help.

Good question. I recognize the internal feeling of what depression is. It's our fault, ONLY, if we enable it to continue. Depression is a deep dejection of spirit characterized by withdrawal, lack of response to stimulation. This is a conditioned response, from other the years, months, weeks, etc. That if we responds to a certain stimuli, then the consequences, are less severe. Depression, also the only way, that over time of a negative stimuli, that we can place that feeling. Because in the end result, no matter what we say, what we do, or how many different languages we can express a feeling or thought. That other person, really either don't give a darn, or they cannot not acknowledge that you are too a real person, with real feeling, heart, emotions etc. Well it would really stink to think that people are really like that, and in fact they really don't care how we think, or how many tears that are shed. I really feel that, everyday. Best of luck, Just don't put up with the source that can keep you there.

No, No, and No. Never let anyone tell you that!! If someone you know is depressed, or it's you, get a regular MD that is willing to treat depression (ask the receptionist over the phone before you spend any money) and keep trying his different sample anti-depressants until you feel the serotonin, dopamine, and nor-something (???) whatever, release you from a feeling that makes you wish you had never been born. What else is any more important, as far as medications go? Remember this line forever and you may save a friend: Suicide is a permanent answer to a temporary problem.
Go Forward!! Good Luck!! @8=)

yes and no...

no because there are some external factors that may cause a person to feel depressed. examples include hurtful criticism, a family disaster, etc. these external factors take their toll on the person either instantly or gradually. sometimes, the effects aren't noticed soon enough, thus causing the person to be depressed without even preparing for it.

yes because it also depends on the person on how to respond to given situations. you could decide to be happy in spite of the circumstance at hand. your reaction is your prerogative. if you feel like the situation is worth getting affected, well, it's your choice. if you don't think it's worth it, you could ignore it.

so, it's a matter of perspective. see what you want, do what you want, believe what you want...but consider the effects.

Yes and No. For many their is a chemical imbalance but the imbalance in itself can be caused by the persons lack of knowledge to be happy. One must really know how to change their actions for greater happiness. This takes knowledge and one can research it, or simply hang with people that are happy. Look for those that make you want to puke because their so go lucky all the time. Drugs can give someone a kick start but to prevent relapses of depression find happy people and learn.

No sweety it's no ones fault. There are so many diseases out there that we could have including cancer, blindness, we are lucky is all we walk away with is depression. Because I have it and I work with clients who have it and you can live a good life. There is hope for happiness. I just count my blessings that I have what I have and that I didn't end up with diabetes like my mother or alcoholism like my fathers family.

I personally think that anyone can get out of depression if they had the will too. I think that these days people are so lazy that they just want things like drugs to do it for them. Even in the commercials it says.. "depression is caused by a chemcial imbalance -insert drug here- works to balance it yatta yatta it's unclear how it works" .. everybody, especially now, wants a little attention and things like.. "I'm a cutter! & I'm suicidal!" gets them that. It's the same with girls who whore themselves so that more and more guys will like them and that they'll feel loved.

I believe that the person can stop it. I do think they need support, but drugs aren't the way to go. Most of the people who claim to have depression really shouldn't have a reason to be depressed at all other than they don't feel as though they are getting the attention they deserve.

And for those who need it, we don't know about it because they secretly think there is no way out of what they feel. If they could only will themselves to look on the bright side.. they wouldn't be depressed anymore. People need not wallow in their self-pity, but to be appreciative of what they have and what they can have with a little effort.

P.S. I know I'm not going to get much support on this, but I'm tired of people being hypochondriacs. Drug industries make drugs for money, so keep that in mind too. I just don't think depression is a disease, so don't criticize me on what I believe. People are so brainwashed these days but I don't blame them.. Open your minds..

Depression can be caused by a lot of different things. I believe that it is caused by both psychological factors and biological factors. It is almost never a depressed person's fault that they developed depression and no one would choose to be depressed if they knew what it felt like.

Somebody said that nobody would choose to be depressed if they knew what it felt like, but they are wrong. People choose this all the time, even knowing what it feels like. People get comfortable where they are and often choose not to change.

No. Depression is a disease or a condition. Not the person's fault at all.
