I'm writing a scholarship essay worth $25,000 to a school I've been dreaming of since 6th grade, if I win first place, and I need to know what Hollywood Ending is....Oh, and wish me luck.

Thanks People.

"Hollywood Ending" is a cynical term used when all the plot points are wrapped up a little too neatly and quickly just to get to the "they all lived happily ever after" moment. Quite often, the happy ending is at odds with the overall tone of the film.

I think this probably originated because big studio films often change the ending of stories that came from different source material. Say MGM decides to make a movie based on a book. In the book the main character dies in the end, but the studio thinks this is big downer and doesn't think audiences will like it so they change the ending. Now instead of dying, the main character not only doesn't die, he also wins the lottery and gets the girl.

A recent example of this is "The Ice Harvest". If you rent the DVD, look in the bonus features and there are two alternate endings. When you watch these you can tell that they were shot as the original ending and the one in the final film was done later as a re-shoot. It's a very dark movie from the beginning. The original ending had the main character getting killed because of the one genuinely nice, selfless thing he does in the entire film. In the re-shoot he ends up riding off, almost literally, into the sunset with a suitcase full of money and his best friend.

It probably means like the ending of a Hollywood film. Big climax music, happy ever after stuff. The good guys win! UNLESS it means the ending like the lives of people who have worked in Hollywood. Exploited, used up and on the skids. (Apart from a few, but even many big stars have ended up that way) Take your pick of which way you want to go! Good luck.

the 1st blockbuster sequel might must be the Empire strikes returned. Up till that component the rule of thumb replaced into that sequels have been hardly ever finished because of the fact it ought to on no account be as good because of the fact the 1st. properly contained with reference to megastar Wars, lightening struck two times and the Empire Struck returned. The good judgment nonetheless stands that infrequently are sequels as good or greater efficient than the unique. Now anybody can argue that statements because of the fact theres an excellent sort of a thank you to degree 'if a action picture is nice.' you could decide for field place of work draw, severe reaction, political/ sociological breakthroughs and statements... and so on. maximum sequels purely arent that good. the three maximum effective sequels (in accordance with a mix of severe acclaim and field place of work) may well be the Empire strikes returned, Terminator 2, and the Godfather area 2. i'm particular my statements purely made ought to stir up a multitude of controversy and debate yet i'm putting forward from a logistical viewpoint the two from marketplace generalizations and logistics. there have been many lesser videos that have been effective sequels yet its argued that Jaws (1975) replaced into the 1st real summer season blockbuster. And particular, I do understand that Godfather area 2 got here out in 1974 yet it relatively is the final consensus.

A "Hollywood Ending" would have to be an ending where everyone is happy...the good guy gets the girl and the whole world is safe.

The bad guys lose, the good guys win, the world is saved and the guy gets the girl who magically noticed him for the first time, even if he looks like Danny Divito -- especially if he looks like Danny Divito!
