I read articles and watched the news, but the oldest one that has been abducted for 4 1/2 years isn't that alittle weird and seems like the boy didn't care about running away? Don't say he feared trying to escape within the whole 4 1/2 yrs because he had many opportunities. So, what you think?

I can only imagine the fear he felt at 11 years old being kidnapped. At that age a child is just not able to cope with this type of situation. The fear, confusion, uncertainty. If he had tried to run and been caught again, what horrors would he have faced? If he tried to run and didn't know where to run to what would have happened?

Later it was just a way of life, similar to abuse victims, trust me after a while being in an abusive situation you don't know how to run. With all of the self-doubt, fear, insecurity, etc. that comes with being a teenager, then to add this on top of it! I think he must be a very strong young man!

If you really listened to his step-father it sounds like Shawn did try to reach out, on his own website, his step-father hinted at the fact the posts from "Shawn Devlin" were actualy from Shawn. They date back to 2005 and he listed that he was from Kirkwood. For starters how in the world could an imposter have come up with that name and town prior to when he was found?

So, yes he did try to reach out, but didn't really know how.

Although its an ignorant question, given the circumstances, and no offense. We can not jump into conclusions, to make it seem that the boy was a "happy camper", so to say. Hopefully, you are not implying that this youngster loved it, there are many factors that could come into account, but, it is premature to conclude on any.

Like not knowing where he is, and being told things out there could kill you...and so on

What I think:

1. He could have been threatened; either himself or his family would be hurt.

2. He could have been told his family didn't want him anymore.

3. He could have the Stockholm syndrome: Identified with his captor after a period of time.

There was a similar case several years back, in fact they made a movie for tv about it. It was called something like "My name is Stephen". It can happen.

yes it is some strange, but i also don't think the news is telling all of the story, maybe the police is not telling everything they know to the news for some good reason or another.

You've decided the child is guilty. I won't waste my time with a person like you.

I think it is a little strange. We'll just have to wait and get all the details.
