If you're looking for a hobby you could work part time in a day care. I've known a lot of stay at home moms who do that because they already know kids.

Why don't you go to an employment agency? (I did, started at a low wage and now make $20/hr as a permanent --no lie). Many will give you some basic training in office software (MS Word, MS Excel, etc). They will then send you out on various assignments. Sometimes it will only be to do filing or answering the phone. The thing is the more variety you get, the more experience you will have. You might even get hired in permanently on one of these temporary assignments. You will have a job with a future. Don't sell yourself short.

What did you do before your kids? While you haven't worked, remember that you have picked up that valuable life experience plus as an older more established person you are more reliable. Are you computer literate? That is the big difference. Try stepping into a job that will get you up to snuff in some particular field-like assistant apartment manager. It will give you the skills to step up to apartment manager shortly. You can manage a quick shop, sales clerk, retail sales. Your age will actually give you an up, so play up your reliability and good sense. Take a job that will move you up or that will educate you, get you up to date, or promotes women. Be sure you look professional when you apply for that job, but not overly done. You can try temp jobs to start or in Texas you can go to the Texas Workforce Commission (state). They have classes, job openings, all sorts of resources. Beauracracies-govt, colleges, etc-have lots of jobs that are not technical in nature and pay pretty good. Good luck.

You didn't say what your skills or interests are, but if you like to type and you are interested in the medical field, you might want to look into medical transcription or medical billing careers. The training takes approximately one year, and through some schools, you can train at home on your computer. Three of the top medical transcription schools are The Andrews School, M-Tech, and Career Step. If you have a disability, you could refer yourself to your local Vocational Rehabilitation Office for assistance. If you don't care for typing, then some other options might be a school bus driver, teacher assistant, newspaper delivery, grocery store clerk, personal assistant (in your neighborhood), pet sitter/walker, babysitter/nanny, van driver (for a preschool or mental health facility), receptionist at a beauty salon, librarian assistant, personal tutor (meet at the library), waitress, cashier at a discount store, etc. Good luck! You can do it!!! (I've been out of the work force for 19 years, and I'm going back to school myself!)

Try going back into the field you were in before you left the workforce. Assuming you are looking for something just part time while the kids are in school try a daycare and childcare center, being a bank teller, or a part time receptionist or office assistant. If you are looking to keep yourself busy and prepare to get back into the working world think about taking a class or two at your local college or online to ripen your skills.

work on your resume and make it an excellent one to get job, which suits your interest. You should take the help of consultant to make an attractive resume. Then You should submit your resume to leading jobsite like www.monster.com, www.careerbuilder.com. Also you should consult local placement consultant in your area. In the meantime, look out for an option to work online. Although it wont pay you like full time job but you can make extra cash in your spare time. I am a part time worker doing work online at home, so I would like to share a link where you can make $600-$1500 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting/answering a discussion and uploading any photo/image of your interest. For details visit
http://ommc.blogspot.com
I will publish few more genuine site in couple of weeks, where you can earn money. You may also write to me at talkofmoney@rediffmail.com (Note: When u are planning for a home based online work, be careful because most of them are scam and ask you to pay initial money. never pay money to any such site.)

You could do "at home party sales," such as Tupperware, Pampered Chef, etc....a lot of people knock this type of work, but I tell ya what...I worked 8 hours a month and made $18K my first year of selling PartyLite. I was at home during the week and did all my "shows" on Friday nights, Saturday and Sunday late mornings/early afternoons....it was fun and I met alot of nice people and friends. And there was NO start up fee involved either.

I would go to work for the school district. Think aabout it, you would have the same schedule as your kids and there are benefits!!!! To start it would probably be as a sub job, cafeteria, recess duty etc... but, you put in your time and you can get on full time. The schools are always having trouble keeping reliable subs who can show up when called. But, the people who do prove reliable get the full time positions!!!!! Blessings

It depends. Do you want to work at home so you can be there when they get home from school or do you want to get out into the workplace and work to make other people rich. If your like me you can't afford to work for minimum wage. You have to find where your passion is, which is probably your kids, like me. I chose to work at home. Email me and I will give you a great website to make make that will last a lifetime. I don't want to be reported for advertising. Good Luck!

A high-priced call girl? No, just kidding!!! I'm in the same position. I'm going to look into either working at my daughter's school, or answering surveys on-line for money$$$.
