Say they owed you a few thousand because you worked for them, but they are family.

It's been three years, I needed it for surgery, now I'm stuck with a bill I can't pay, my own sister is the one who owes it.

Family or not, A FEW THOUSAND, I would collect it. A couple hundred is one thing but THOUSANDS. Thant ain't family that's a thief ..* * A FEW THOUSAND ??LOL not on my watch!!

If you didn't have it in writing then you can't do anything through the courts so just take it as a loss and don't have anything else to do with this family member. There will come a time when that person needs help but remind them how they screwed you over.

Well, first of all, before i even started working for them, I would let them know that i expect to be treated and paid on time, like any other employee, that isn't related to them. Related or not, if they didn't pay me, i would have no choice but to take them to small claims court, because i have bills that need to be paid, just like they do and i would never work for them again. It would definitely put a wedge between my family member/members and me. Sometime's family members, can be worse than non family members because they sometime's expect you to work for free.

MY BROTHER OWES ME WELL OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS THAT I WILL NEVER SEE AGAIN IN THIS LIFETIME.
THE LESSON IS, NEVER LEND THEM MONEY AGAIN, NO MATTER WHY THEY SAY THEY NEED IT.
MY BROTHER USED TO LIE ABOUT WHY HE NEEDED THE MONEY, AND HE WOULD LIE EVEN MORE ABOUT PAYING IT BACK.
IT HAS BEEN ALMOST TWENTY YEARS SINCE THEN, AND OH BY THE WAY, HE EVEN HAD THE AUDACITY TO STEAL FROM ME WHENEVER I WOULDN'T GIVE HIM ANY MONEY, AND TO THIS DAY HE DENIES IT.
HE TELLS EVERYONE THAT HE HATES A THEIF AND THAT HE HAS NEVER STOLEN A DAY IN HIS LIFE, BUT I HAVE WITNESSES THAT SAW HIM STEAL FROM ME.
WHAT A HYPOCRITE.

if they're family like my sis or bro then they dnt owe me anything... whatever i have its theirs
but 4 outside family members, well if they dnt wana pay back then dont... im not gonna beg them 2 do so!
as 4 other ppl whom i was nice enuf 2 lend money but wudnt pay me back, let them take d money 2 their graves!

eesh. This is why it's never good to lend money to family or friends. You don't want to have to hate them.
All you can really do is never lend money to them again and keep hassling them for it.
