In today's american society its belived if you go to college, you will be succesfull.

My friend just just finished with college and he is having a hard time finding a job at the moment and was forced to temporaly move into his patents house.

Some people i know didnt go to college but they still manage to get jobs with decent wages.

Do you really think that college = success?

All opinions are welcome.

P.S (im still in High School.)

The higher the education, the more jobs you have available to you. Many companies won't hire you without a college degree. Unless you want to work blue collar (nothing wrong with that) then go to college.

I'm assuming that by "successful" you mean making a lot of money.

Today's PhD or masters is yesterdays Bachelor degree. That's what I've noticed. A Bachelor's degree is now almost expected to obtain a job that pays more than min wage while when I was growing up you could still obtain that with just your HS diploma.

With so many people getting degrees now, with it being much easier to obtain an education via grants and loans, it has put everyone on equal footing. If you really want to be sucessful now, you have to specialize and get a Masters degree or PhD or go into nursing or another field where workers are desperately needed.

Another field that is opening up are the technical fields of electricians etc. I have friends who have been through these programs at vocational schools and they make way more than I do! So it depends on where the workers are needed and how fast they are filling the slots.

Going to college is overrated maybe, but completing college isn't. You'll find a very small percentage of college graduates regretting that they completed college the older they get.

Depending on what state the economy is when you graduate (and what you chose to study), it can be difficult to find a job when you get out of school at first. In the long term though you're better off having a college degree because you have more options than if you don't.

Unless you're very entrepreneurial and you're already equipped to own your own business, It's worth it to complete college I promise you. It opens up much more options for you. If you don't complete college and you work for others your whole life they're going to own you a lot more because you'll have fewer options.

College does not equal success but I think it's fair to say that it equals a significant increased chance for success. It 'gets you in the door' in so many areas that you wouldn't be able to otherwise. Once you're in the door, the degree doesn't matter much--but getting in the door is very important.

it depends on yourself, and it need a 'little' luck.
I'm still 19 years old, I've been work for a foreign company for half year (I'm Indonesian).
I was a brand new fresh graduate at that time,
never been to college, didn't got any experience before.
you know my position?
I work as an assistant of the country manager.
Can you imagine that?
In the other side, my older sister, she is already 26 year old, she's graduated from University of Indonesia (the best college in Indonesia), she's got great experiences,
she's been in the newspaper as a reporter, she's been in MTV, and in TV as a host of the entertainment program, and now she's jobless for almost half year,
why its so hard for her to find the new job?
I don't know.
That's what I'm telling you, there's no 'rules' that the degree people will got job easier than us, the high school graduate only.

College degrees offer advancement, in my opinion. You still have to start at the bottom of the ladder, since you don't have any more job experience than the next guy, likely. But when you put in a few years, and your buddies are still working as sales clerks, you could be management in a major corporation.
Could be. Luck also plays a very large factor...and that kinda depresses me.

it depends what you go to college for.... I have a friend who majored in psychology and works as a restaurant manager. Didn't need a four year degree for that. Sometimes you get lucky and get the awesome job with excellent pay and all you have is a high school degree.

Besides, you should go to college for the fraternities and sororities...nothing like a good kegger on the weekend before finals.

College is not for everyone, and college does not equal success. But it works for me and my family.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! when you earn your degree, you USUALLY start off as a low entry worker then you move up!
