I'm astonished to realize that very few people know about genetics. Whenever me and my sister go out to socialize (definitely not my idea, I really scare people off, including men..haha) no one believes were sisters. They think it's this bizaree lie. Us? sisters? impossible!
She's exteremly fair, I am not, her eyes are blue, mine aren't, she's way taller, and her hair is a golden brown. The only thing that is physically visible about our relation is the shape of our faces.
No one also believes that she's iranian, like myself. Everyone expects the dark one with the thick eyebrows to be the middle eastern one. Just because I fit the physical sterotype doesn't have to mean I'm Iranian. Damn. I could be a southern european. Even hispanic.
think before you judge, is what I'd suggest to most individuals

I have always found genetics to be somewhat humorous...
I went to school with an interracial family. (Mother white, father black). One child was honey blonde, straight hair with blue eyes and the other child had textured hair and was dark. They both looked like their parents. They simply picked up different features. To racist people I could only say....so what!! I still do because diversity is the norm on this planet. It's how us humans are!

I'm wondering what angers you so ? Its just something to have a conversation about. Not all members of a family look that different. No pun intended.Clean up your attitude Honey, and you will have more real friends in this old world. Good Luck to you !!

I completely agree with you. Although I'm an identical twin & the cashier at the store thought my sister was my mother & I have to admit I loved it. She was always the prettier one in high school

just because you don't know about genetics doesn't make you small minded. I am sure those people know a lot about things that affect their everyday life, that doesnt affect you, so you don't know anything about their topics. Does that make you small minded? Also, there is so many cultures in America. It is hard to know about every culture. I don't think people are judgemental, I just think they are curious about things they don't understand.

I don't get the obsession people have with pigeonholing others. I'm multiracial, and people are all the time asking me "where are you from?" and making all sorts of wild guesses.

I'd say most people who have approached me in my life to be "friends" really only wanted to figure out my ancestry. So now I just explain: "I was born in Argentina to a half-Chinese, half-German/Italian dad and to a half Native American, half Black/Lebanese mom. I've lived in a dozen countries in my life and speak seven languages and no, I don't fit any of your boxes, will you please leave me alone?"

If you don't want to be taken as a stereotype, then distance yourself from it. Wear colored contacts and dye your hair. You coming on here and bitching isn't going to change how people perceive you.
