I plan to convert my VHS's to DVD's. The system requirement indicated on the software box demands a USB 2.0 Host Contoller. Can I simply buy and install a PCI 2.0 card adapter? And will my 4-year-old PC run at 480 mbps?

The computer will run the card but it depends on the motherboard if it will run at 1.1 speed of 2. I put one in my old computer and the card was able to run at 2 speed, but i put one into my sisters computer and it only ran at 1.1. There is a good chance that it will but i don't garunte it

Yes, all USB 2.0 devices will work on a USB 1.1 port/motherboard. The only effect is reduced speed. So sadly on your converter program the transfer speed will be greatly affect, like a 1 hour movie only taking 1 minute in a USB2.0 will have at least 10 minutes on a USB 1.1

I've added a USB 2.0 PCI controller to my 2000 PC. It works perfectly @ 480 mbps.

Make sure that the card comes with drivers on a CD for your OS.

If you have windows Me, you'll need a winME or win98 driver.
