It depends. The truth is, it's not that there is a black history or any other history, it's that there is not something for whites in that sense and to take it further, anyone who might suggest such a thing would be labeled a racist. Not all whites have their history from the Mayflower. Many came here much later from countries such as Germany and Ireland to escape wars and famine.
What you are referring to is American History, and unfortunately, the Black history in this country is what it is. Most black people in early American history came here as slaves. It's a very sad blemish on our country's history.
Personally, I hate history. It is taught so badly and just seems to be nothing more than regurgitating names and dates, year after year after year. I know it has a place but I just would really like to focus on fixing the present and making a better future.
When you hear whites putting down Black history, just ignore them and understand that you have the right to celebrate who you are. What we really need is a Humanity month that will help people to see others as simply people without the differences. We all have families and problems and good and wonderful things about ourselves that should be shared across racial lines to help one another to overcome the terrible problems and hostilities this world is facing.
Now for you and your question, I think that you would probably enjoy tracing your family history back to its roots and find out where your family originated. Then learn what you can about that country and people. It would be personal for you and give you a sense of your own history. Try not to focus on the bad parts you will most likely find (we all have that skeleton in our closets). Just keep going until you find the origin.
This is a good question that gives us all the opportunity to think about how we treat others, and why. I just hope we can eventually just become the human race without looking for ways to separate us.

Why is Selena D always whining about whites??
I don't hear anyone complaining about black history. And this isn't really a question. This is more of a pulpit.
And Superstar, how can i target Black History month when I don't know when it is??? LOL
The truth is most white people don't care about black history month just as you obviously don't care about the history of the country you are in.
You sound like you hate Americans though, so maybe you should look into moving to a country whose culture you may respect. Unfortunately, I don't think one exists.
I think you are the most negative person on this site.

I'm white. I have never complained. I even read some of the literature that is handed out plus more. I do that with ethnic festivals too. If you want to be a true North American (Canadian/American), you have to open up your mind to everyone as they have all contributed to the greatness of this continent. There is more to the European history that you have learned (Pilgrims, etc). I too had the same complaints in school because teachers did not present more in class. I read many books on the side to give me better insight.

girl i totally agree with u. I do believe that some white people only single out black history month when there are several other ethnicities that have a month to celebrate. and on top of that we have the shortest month of the whole year!! and also what really bothers me is that native american have the month of november and thats including thanksgiving which is the day that the pilgrims decided to kill all native americans and columbus day which is the most offensive day to them as well. why give them a month that caused so much hurt and pain. they could have had september or something like that. none of the months insults white people at all. we are just proud of who we are. everyone should be!!! and girl i am totally with u i hate learning about king george, england, boston stamp act, and all that bullshit. its boring. but when u get into college there are so much more options in history u can take. i have taken latin american art and then next semester i am learning about the the history in the middle east or india and its soo much more interesting than that other bullshit. i love history now!!

I graduated from High-school 1962. I regret the fact that we were not taught Black-history. After educating myself later on in years, I learn there were many Black men and women that were never recognized for their contributions to the medical field, teachers, principals and Scientist along with many other area's. One of the most distributing was a man that worked in the medical field and found a way to complete blood transfusions. When he took ill he was refused treatment for a much needed transfusion, but was refused and he died due the color of his skin. I thought all blood runs red!

There are not enough "history months" at all. How about "Canadian History Month", "German History Month", "Russian History Month", "Homophobes History Month", "Sexual Abuser History Month", "Rapists History Month", "Hypochondriacs History Month", "Latvian History Month", "French History Month", "Belgian History Month", "Luxembourg History Month", "Depressed People's History Month", "Overweight People's History Month", "Anorerix People's History Month", "Skinny People's History Month" ... we are leaving a LOT of people out - and they should ALL be recognized. This used to be AMERICA -- what happened? We need to wake up and stop all this madness!!!

How come some blacks complain about some whites complaining about anything?
Im tired of hearing about how this culture hates that one and so on and so on yet....I STILL HEAR IT.
Do you think COMPLAINING will really accomplish anything?
Why not do something new and amazing like, LEARN from each other's culture and appreciate the differences....?!

It's just the narrow-minded ignorant white folks that do the complaining. Sorry you have ran into some of them.
