My son held his and fed himself his bottle at just over 5 months old.
My 1st daughter refused to hold it on her own till she was almost 12months old.
And my 2nd daughter is currently 3 months old... she definately has to have her hands on the bottle, but i wouldn't encourage her to feed herself on her own yet.

My daughter learned to hold her own bottle between 5 and 6 months. By about 7 months she was great at it. My youngest just turned 5 months and she is barely learning to put her hands on it but only when I hold it for her. All babies are different.
Screw the guy who called you a lazy b, probably never had kids himself and if he has he probably didn't do much of the parenting. Idiot.

My 71/2 month old we are STILL trying to get to hold his own bottle. How easy it is when this day comes!!! You can get the clip on handles for their bottles, and this makes it a lot easier for them to hold. My 2 other sons were about 7 - 8 months before they mastered it, mainly because we babied them way too much and held it for them. Another thing we did was put a towel on their tummy and propped the bottle up with that.

My son is 4 months old and he tries to hold his bottle now. Of course he can't but he has both hands on it the entire time he's drinking. He can hold it when it's almost empty and I've been able to at least scratch my nose or eye. I think I have a very independent baby on my hands! I've never tried to teach him this.....he just does it on his own.

five months, it was the best thing in the whole world. But, do not prop the bottle up for them, it causes ear infections and they can choke easily. I would just hold them, or they would sit in their carseat and eat. That was more exciting than when they learned to walk!
