What is the best way to bring a nanny to the US from India?

I have 3 small children and would like to have a nanny from India to help pass along our culture to them (my husband and I grew up in India). We live in the Bay Area...what is the best way to find and bring a nanny over from India?

I too have looked into bringing a nanny in from overseas into the US. While it's probably not something that you want to hear, but bringing a foreign nanny in legally very, very difficult.

First, getting a visa through normal channels is virtually impossible. Secondly, you cannot force her to work for you once she is on US soil. That is, she can quit or run away - and you are still legally responsible for her. For example, she runs away and accidentally kills someone while driving. You would be responsible.

There is a loophole. You must be on a short-term program to the US with a finite contract that EXPLICITLY says that you will probably be reassigned back abroad. The nanny also must be employed by you before you leave. You also then need to employ her legally, giving minimum wage, social security benefits and all that. But this does not stop her "ace in the hole". If she knows her rights and knows about market rates of nannies in the Bay Area, she will quit on you, leave you and be an illegal immigrant with you still being legally responsible for her.

Having lived in Asia for over 10 years, EVERYBODY tries to bring their nanny back to their home country. I know of only three that have succeeded (using the above method).

Otherwise, your best bet is to hire an illegal immigrant - which would be unethical and something that I cannot publicly condone.
