Metric units of measure include the milimeter, centimeter, meter, and kilometer.
1000 milimeters = 1 meter
100 centimeters = 1 meter
1000 meters = 1 kilometer

weight measurements:
1 gram
1000 grams = 1 kilogram

Liquid weight: liters

Kilo = 1000 units
hecto = 100 units
deca = 10 units
(your unit goes here as 1. Meter, gram, liter, etc.)
deci = .1 units
centi = .01 units
mili = .001 units

There are more prefixes, but these are some basic ones. Metric conversions are easy because all it is is moving the decimal over (since everything is in 10's).

This is the way I learned the metric system and it has yet to fail.

K - kilo
H - hecta
D - deca
the unit you are measuring in
d - deci
c - centi
m - milli

those are the basic ones. It goes on after that into nano and other much smaller units but the ones you need, unless you want to become physicist or chemist are the ones I gave you.

The units of measure are
Liter - liquid
Meter - length
Grams - weight

K= 1000 of the main unit, like meter for example
1KL=1000L

H=100 of the main unit (1HL=100L)

D=10 of the main unit (1DL=10L)

d=0.1 of the main unit (1dL=0.1L) or (1L=10dL)

c=0.01 of the main unit (1cL=0.01L) or (1L=100cL)

m=0.001 of the main unit (1mL=0.001L) or (1L=1000mL)

If you want to convert from hecto to deci all you have to do is devide. In this case it would be easier for you to go from hecto to the basic unit by dividing by ten and then again from the basic unit to deci by diving by ten again.

If you are converting from the American Standard (that really is only usefull in the USA because even Canada uses metric) the following is the conversion table that all you will need to do is divide and multiply with the numbers you are given in any problem.

If that was hard to understand, as I think it might have beenI am including the site where this table is found.

Go to www.wikipedia.org and search for metric system. They should have a full explanation.
