Really, it depends on the quality and design of the necklace. I think both gold and platinum are fine for guys. You do have to be careful how you wear it so that it is classy looking, rather then gaudy and tacky.
Personally, I would stick to a thinner chain, that fits the neck well. Nothing that hangs or dangles too much.

If you're a guy, NEITHER. Avoid "bling bling" altogether-it's so unsexy.
If you're a girl, gold is your best bet unless you can afford real platinum. Fake gold can be pulled off but if it's fake silver/platinum then it won't look that great.

It really depends on how much you want to spend since platinum is much more expensive.Visually it is hard to tell the difference by looking at them.

I prefer silvery looking. Whether it's silver, white gold, or platnium it doesn't matter.
Different colors work better on different skin tones. Lighter skin tones look better with silver and darker skin tones look better with gold.
