What's your experience (how many feet, miles, etc?; did you feel calm, happy?; if applicable, are they similar?; how long did it last?) with either and other types of natural highs?

There are several different types of highs. Some are simply a mental state. Others involve hormones and other such chemicals in the body. I experienced something similar when I attempted weight lifting as a form of strength training. When the muscle tissue was damaged, my body sent out chemicals to relieve the pain. They worked so well that I felt something like a high. Some athletes become addicted to the sensation. While not altogether unpleasant, I didn't really like it either. The body has ways of dealing with stress. Like it or not, that is what is happening. The body is stressed, physically or mentally or emotionally. The body is just trying to survive and cope. You don't need to break down in a fighting situation. Your body has no way of knowing when those situations will occur. As a defense, you are always readied for such.
Beware, excessive use of this system is harmful. Too much release of adrenaline, among other things, will harm the body in the long term. When life is measured in moments, the benefits of adrenalin are obvious. When life is measured in years, you are risking damage to internal organs as well as over-stressing the heart and brain. High blood pressure is a symptom of being keyed up. Don't overdo it.

From my experience, a certain fitness level must be first obtained. Once you get to the point where running is no longer uncomfortable, it doesn't take long. By the end of the first mile I can be lost in my music and next thing I know, six miles have gone by. Sometimes I will have a hard time driving home because I am so relaxed and slightly unobservant. I once got lost after 12 miles and realized I was sitting on a curb and no longer running. I called my husband to come get me because I didn't trust myself to drive.
I think it feels like a dream. And it is the most amazing feeling in the world.
