If y varies directly with x, and y=8 when x=2, find the constant of variation k?

Someone please help I do not understand this.

y = kx
k = y/x = 8/2 = 4

y varies directly with x so y= kx
when y=8 x=2 replacing in the above equation you get
8 = 2k => k=4

x and y are variables...k is constant and does not change.
starting off: 8=2k and you need to solve for k so isolate it by dividing both sides by 2.
k=4
