Yes, my husband. I point out how ridiculus it is to keep for example a broken clock for parts when:
A) He doesn't know how to fix a clock if it broke and
B) A new clock only cost about $10
Good Luck with your rat!

I am a pack rat. I suffer severely from obsessive compulsive disorder (ocd) and often can not fight the need to hoard most things. I fear throwing something away that could be useful in the future. Be it information or a piece of paper. It can often be a used napkin or a gum wrapper - the brain is just twisted. Logically, I see the wrong behind it, but the panic that sets in causes me to continue with it.
Those of you who say 'get rid of their stuff when they're not looking' - well please don't. I couldn't function for 4 days when my Mom disposed of a paper I had written in the 5th grade. She was just trying to help make my room normal. I was in 9th grade by this time, and my room had piles of papers knee deep, but it was devastating to me.

Yea, me! When a room finally gets too crowded/messy, then I'll throw away stuff. If the person doesn't mind a mess, then it's gonna b hard to get them to get rid of junk. I can only do it by throwing away a lil at a time..doesn't seem so bad to me then. O, and donating things instead of just trashing them helps too.

My husband is an f-ing pig. I'd give him/her up to one month to get organized, go through stuff, etc. Then, go in there and start tossing!!
When in doubt, THROW IT THE HELL OUT!
