I am using a Dell Inspiron E1405. I am trying to burn a data cd to backup some files. In the past, I have been able to insert a blank cd-r and burn the files to the disc. Now, when I put in a blank cd-r, my computer is not able to read the disc. Opening up "My Computer" on windows, I get the following error window:

D:\ is not accessible
Incorrect function

other discs with data already on them work normally with no problems. This includes data discs, music discs, as well as dvds. It is a DVD +/- rw

Do you have any special software like Nero or Roxio that you use for making DVDs and CDs?

If so, make sure that the software is still working. Windows XP has built-in CD burning capabilities but nothing for DVDs. But in order for that to work, the CD Recording has to be enabled. Right-click the drive and go to properties. Look on the recording tab for the option to enable it.

If that doesn't do it, look for a technical forum online (such as www.tek-tips.com). Yahoo! Answers just isn't a good place to talk back and forth. Most rarely go back and re-check the threads here for updates.

Sometimes windows CD writing function gets corrupted. In most cases using burning programs like Nero still work fine ...

Try using something else than windows writing option.
