Well, one way to look at it is that lies don't fit with reality. Claim something happened that didn't and with enough facts about the surrounding situation the lie has no connections to support it - because it never actually happened. The actual circumstances - or truth - are supported by the connecting and associated facts - and if properly investigated - become SELF EVIDENT. Lies undermine themselves - if they are scrutinized closely.
Unfortunately, sometimes the powers that be prefer to believe the lies and decide to ignore the "self evident" nature of the truth and even the self (non)evident nature of a lie.

You know, the phrase "We hold these truths to be self-evident" is simply an argument to try to persuade others to agree with the writer's views. Truth is very difficult to know considering that experience is so different for different people, but as a society we have agreed upon some basic human rights. They are considered to be the few self-evident truths.

Truth can be defined as the objective facts as they are, without regard to opinion, speculation, interpretation, or perception. A truth is self-evident when the definition is the same as the quality. "Truth is true". The definition of what is true, is exactly the same as the quality, which is truth. "Fire is heat and light". The definition of fire is the same as the qualities.

I can give you an example of truth that is self evident (and hence one of the axioms of logic). You buy a gift. You put it in a box. You put the box in your car. Is it self evident that the present is in the car? Wouldn't the very structure of the universe have to be different for the present NOT to be in the car?

A self-evident proposition is one that is known to be true by understanding its meaning without proof.
In informal speech, self-evident merely means obvious.
Truth becomes self-evident when it is recognized as such.
Moral propositions can also be said to be self-evident.
This is the case in the U.S. Declaration of Independence, which states, "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...."
Many agree that the proposition is morally self-evident, and can be held as self-evident as the foundation of practical behavior.

Truth is only assessable by comparison. There are no self evident thruths. Unfortunately those that are true by comparison rest on a bed of sifting sands.

Self-evident means it is obvious, so a self-evident Truth is something obvious, such as if I drop a glass bowl, it will shatter.
