Depends. If you want to sound bettter than you actualy are go with an electric. With enough distortion and effects it's easier to hide mistakes and the wrong notes. Learn some bar cords and you could be the next Ramones or Green Day. An acoustic has it's time and place but chicks dig guys that swing an electric ax. Good luck and have fun.

You should get a guitar that you would want to play. Some people get an acoustic guitar to start off with because they were told they should learn on one. They really wanted an electric guitar and got bored with the acoustic.Get an electric guitar if that is what you really want. The notes and chords are the same.

Beginners must start playing an acoustic spanish guitar with nylon strings. Steel strings have a higher tension and hurt fingers, and is not recommended for learning to play. After a couple of years of study, maybe you're ready to play steel-string guitars, regardless if they are electric or not.

My favourite brand for it is Epiphone. Martin, Tanglewood and Yamaha are also good. All of these you can get a basic acoustic for around the hundred pound mark. If you're serious about playing, I'd strongly suggest you consider an electro acoustic guitar, which is an acoustic which you can boost by plugging into an amp to enhance sound effects, quality and volume. Again, I prefer Epiphone. It will cost more than a hundred though it is worth it as an investment.

If you want an electric then go for a squier stratocastor, they are made by fender and sound nice. If you want an acoustic/electric get a Tacoma chief, I had one and they are awesome (my nephew's friend smashed it and yes I am mad about it) Anyways they have a beautiful full sound and they are inexspensive for the sound, around 800... Trust me Tacoma makes nice guitars, the best I've ever played, I used to liek takamine but then I got my hands on a tacoma and I was hooked...

I would say acoustic, that way you can get the feel and your tones down without the added mess of playing around with the distortion or the EQ...Or maybe a combo would be nice also. Electric/acoustic....
