Mom, daughter and son at NHL hockey game. My son yells "you suck" to opposing team. The woman next to him calls him a jerk (he's 10 years old). What happened to friendly banter at games??

Yeah, that's pretty bad by the random lady, picking on a ten-year-old like that. I went to a Leafs/Panthers game at the ACC a few years back where we were sitting close to a Florida fan and we were going back and forth, but it was all friendly jives with no malice. Even when I went to Ottawa on a road trip with my Leafs cap on, I got some friendly verbal jabs and I dished out some anti-Senators remarks as well. It was all in good fun. It's all part of being a sports fan rooting for your team. If someone can't understand that it's just a game, they shouldn't be watching it period.

Insulting someone is not friendly banter but on the other hand the woman was at a sporting arena, what did she expect?

Honestly, she doesnt need to be at any sporting event if she cant handle the word "sucks" because as anyone knows people say way worse things than "you suck"

I don't think he was out of line, I always enjoy something maybe a little more along the lines of an opposing goalie hex..... or psych. eg. CUUUUUJJJOOOO when playing curtis joseph etc.
But its not a ballet, or an opera or something, and you always see coaches and players mouth worse phrases anyways. She is a prude.
