You need to be paying much more attention to the nuances of the people around you, not merely to the size of the shadows they cast over your life. Just because there's a wall in front of you doesn't mean that your journey has ended.
The best way is by being friendly to the people you feel you can trust.

A real friend will be there for you, groups to hang out and help back and forth with one another. So to meet new friends, ask yourself what is my interest, hobbies, concerns, faith or no faith (beliefs), conservative or wild child. Find a park, go back to school, library, chruch, mall, muesums, dance clubs, maybe the bar, it's your call to find someone of same persona. And last start a simple converstation: "Hello there, how are you doing, what's your name?" , "I feel awkward in asking, but can you help me with........", "Are you here for..............?" "Can I have a dance please?" "Wow this is great, have you read this (passage/article/chapter) in the (bible/magazine/book), it's interesting!!!"

I meet friends on myspace. I don't get out much cuz I have kids. I meet really nice people on there sometimes.
