It seems to me as if this America is too polarized nowadays: there are liberals and conservatives, but moderates seem to be decreasing in number. Take, for example, a discussion about Iraq- which always seems to end up in one group (or individual) screaming that Bush is an idiot and that we shouldn't be in Iraq, and another group screaming that Bush is doing what is right for the safety of the US. Why can't all Americans begin discussing how to better the situation in Iraq instead of discussing whether or not we should have gone in in the first place; it seems pointless to argue about something that people will never be able to agree on.

Why is this country so divided? Don't we all want a more peaceful world? Don't we all want safety in this country?

I'm sick of arguing whether or not we should have gone into Iraq. The point is, we're there and Bush is our president- these are things that won't change at the moment. Given that, we should focus our attention on the next step!

There's a simple answer, and it really doesn't matter if you are talking about Iraq or not. If you strongly believe in something, and you meet up with people who strongly believe in the opposite, naturally the discussion will get heated and hence the yelling. Those who don't care so passionately about it don't speak up, so only those with strong feelings really vocalize.

And it is healthy, isn't it, to hear different opinions being voiced? It is not only the U.S. that is so divided - it is just because you live here and the U.S. channels only focus on U.S. news. If you were living in another country you will see how divided they are on key issues too. I travel a lot, and I see that all the time.

What is interesting, is that so many people think there is a simple solution, and get so passionate about it. When the truth is really a lot more complicated and the general public doesn't even know the half of it. George Bush could be a lot more stupid that he seems, or he could be a visionary oppressed by current politics - the truth is, we will never know. Not hard to believe either way - just imagine, we still don't know who killed JFK, or what was really discovered in Roswell.

You know the old dinner party saying "Never discuss politics or religion." The passion that arises from the discussion is powerful and divisive.

No, because since many feel that your position is "wrong", you must be shouted down so it does not get out.

I feel that you can have differences with a political stand, but id need not dissovle into diatribe

What is the next step?
Should the President ,who has failed so miserably so far continue to call the shots?
This in and of itself is worthy of debate.
This President asked for and got a bipartisan commission to make recommendations...then flatly rejected all of them...who the hell would not be mad?
