In your opinion are most people with cellphones just using them to fill silence so they don't have to do any thinking? Are we creating an "anti-thought" culture from these sort of habits? What are the ramifications in your view of a society where no one ever enjoys alone time? What effect does this have on a persons mental development? Of course, if your answer is "no" to the first question, ignore the other ones and just supply an argument for why you think cellphones are not being used to fill silence.

It sounds like the book "When God is Silent" by Barbara Brown Taylor. It talks about how we never take time to reflect. We just want to talk, so we've forgotten how to listen.

I think it's true that cell phones can be abused. Do I think that the majority of people with phones abuse them in this way? Probably not. The majority of them are used as business accessories. The anti-thought culture already existed prior to cell phones, and were not caused by them but made the members of the culture easy to point out. :)

For people unable to reflect on life, they will feel less power over their situations. They will seek to talk faster than listen, and therefore they will never grow and learn.

i dont know about you, but i find people on cell phones very annoying. i think most of the people who have them use them to look cool. i think most of them have forgotton the medical report that came out a few years ago that there is a tumor related to excessive cell phone use that grows right behind the ear on the brain from radiation. and just think of all the invisible radiation travelling thru the air from people using there cell phones all the time. i was at a traffic light one day and counted all the people who were on cell phones that drove by and i swear that im not lying it was 11 out of 15 people. ridiculous!

Most people *HAVE* to have their cell phones everywhere they go and constantly have to be on it and talking.

I personally have a mobile phone, but I never use it. I only take it out of the house with me for emergencies. In case I have an accident or I need to phone the police.

I am not one of those people who like to talk on the phone. Am I the only one left? lol

I think some people just like to look important, when they have a cell phone glued to their ear 24/7.
