I broke a lease once, but the lease had a provision for this - I had to pay a month's rent per the lease that I signed. Check your own lease - maybe there is a clause for this. Otherwise, speak with your landlord.

Your best move is to find someone to take over the lease for you. Your landlord can help you with this. The leasing company will charge you for the remainder of the lease plus all the other little bull crap and you won't get your deposit. Then if you don't pay they will turn you into a collection agency and it will ruin your credit rating.

When you break at lease ... you break an contract. Which still leaves you responsible to pay what the rent is times the remainer of your lease! Like if you paid on a years lease for 4 months then break it .... you are held liable for the 8 remaining months worth of your rent. But if you are evicted from your place they kick you out then you are binded to the remaining months of your contract!

I am in this situation right now. I lost my job and could not afford the lease. I talked to the landlord and he was very understanding about me breaking the lease. The best thing is to talk to your landlord and try to work something out. I also had a friend who wanted to move in with her other friends, so told the landlord her job wasn't secure and she wanted to get out. at worse you lose your security deposit, but i think its very rare the landlord is gonna try to sue you for the remainder of the lease payments.

Good luck!

Read your lease. You may be able to break it with only a one month penalty fee. Otherwise, you may move out only to discover that you owe the entire amount of rent due from now until the end of the lease.

Talk to your landlord and explain the problem.

Good luck.

i dont think they will through you in jail,if you have to break it,break it though if you give the landlord the heads up he may be able to keep your stuff, it takes lots of money for them to prosecute you.
