Say it ain't so!! I think we must have had this conversation is general terms as a group before. This is the perfect example of why the baseball writers association needs to clean house and get more responsible voters in their organization.
The way things are now there are 540 or 545 active members who all have a vote. The way it works is that a sports writer who has 10 consecutive years service in the job can apply for baseball hall of fame certification. Once you are approved you have the right to vote for life. That means even if you retire and never watch another baseball game again, you still have hall of fame voting rights. Jason Stark recently said that a large percentage of these writers couldn't even tell you who won last years world series.
Obviously there is a major problem with the system and this, I'm afraid is why some jackass, who was totally out of touch with the game, voted for Canseco. I'm out!!

Probably one of the jackasses that didn't vote for Ripkin and Gwynn voted for Jose Canseco. Some of those writers have no business voting. Seriously the idiot openly confessed to using steroids. What kind of message are we trying to send voting for someone like that??? At least it was only one vote. I hate Canseco, but it is pretty sad that out of Rafael Palmeiro, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa, he is now the only one you can trust.

Probably someone who felt he should have at least one vote. If you've ever noticed, even the guy with a .210 career batting average, 25 HR who was a professional bench jockey throughout his career, but who still managed to hang on for 10 years will get at least one vote. Its probably because someone feels sorry for him. I wouldn't have voted for Canseco, and if I were a voter, I wouldn't vote for Barry Bonds when he finally retires either. Between the two of them, they've taken enough steroids to supply every team in the majors.
