If the Muslim faith is so peaceful, why do they not denounce all these atrocities? It is because there own text tells them not too. Here are a few examples:

"Allah's Apostle said 'I have been made victorious with terror'" (Bukhari Vol. 4, Bk. 52, No. 220)

"Allah's Apostle said, "Killing disbelievers is a small matter to us'" (Tabari IX:69)

"As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill conduct, admonish them, refuse to share their beds, beat them" (Surah 4:34)

"I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strick off every fingertip of them" (Koran 8:12)

"So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them...and [as for] those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish" (Koran 47:4)

I must ask , me, Why do they not heed the peaceful words?

Because the rich manipulative ones do not preach the peaceful words to those they wish to exploit.

I agree 110%, people like the convert (me) need to understand is the difference between meccan and medinan verses. One set of verses was written when muhammed was a minority, and lo and behold its filled with great stuff like respecting everyone and no compulsion in islam. then, when he was strong enough to take mecca forcefully, his verses started changing. instead of living peacefully and stuff, it turned to killing infidels and spreading the faith by the sword. since he has the power to force islam on people, he wasnt content to just tolerate others (IE the Jews of Khaybar who were visciously slaughtered and the women and children brought under slavery).

We can see this same pattern today. when muslims are a minority in a country, they talk about peace and tolerance (like america for the most part). but then, once a military power or numerical majority has been established (sudan, saudi), they start talking about killing the infidel. its a very well established pattern.

some like to point out that "well the bible says to kill people too!"

forget that while it may say so in certain situations in the old testmament, Jesus Christ (the founder of christianity) never advocated or participated in killing. on the contrary, muhammed, the founder of Islam, did advocate killing infidels, and participated in it personally. all of those old testament quotes of violence could be attributed to Judaism, not christianity, since the New testament, or new covenant, fulfills and nulls the regulations of the old testament. in the same way that the violent meccan verses of the quran, nulled and voided the peace- loving medinan verses of the quran.

home- in every one of those verses, christians hadnt yet existed. those were Jews.

The Qu'ran shifts from violence and the taking of the world to Islam to love, patience, and using non-violent means while facing a problem. Yes, I get confused too. This is why we have radical Islamic terrorist, they take the entire Qu'ran literally while moderate Muslims take only the good and peaceful parts.
Though I have to disagree with an answer here that says that every religion has it's violent notions. What I haven't seen declare a holy war (holy war is an oxymoron) are Buddhism, taking all attacks on them peacefully, and Judaism, out hating all that hate them (haha, got it from the Daily Show, though I didn't get it accurately and completely).
Though I have to say is that due to a day of a couple cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammad, riots and the destruction of a Danish embassy exploded in the Middle East and some Islamic leaders call for the Danish government to hand over the cartoonist for "proper" punishment. While a Internet video depicting Jesus getting run over by a bus is everywhere with countless "blasphemous" depictions of Jesus everywhere on the Internet and more, I haven't seen a Christian riot anywhere.
I wish some people in the Middle East would at least learn a thing or two from the peaceful demonstrations and actions of Gandhi or Martin Luther King. Also, I don't think God create life to be targets of RPGs or AK47s, wish they would realise that too.

Kind of like Christians and the Bible:

- In the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. Completely destroy them--the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites--as the LORD your God has commanded you. Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshipping their gods, and you will sin against the LORD your God. (Deut.20:16-18).

- When the LORD your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally (according to the law of anathema). Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy. (Deut.7:2-5, 2:34, Num.25:1-5, 31:14-17, Ex.23:33, Joshua 6:17, 8:26).

-They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it-men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys (Jos.6:21)

-'A prophet who presumes to speak in My Name anything I have not commanded him to say or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods must be put to death.' Deuteronomy 18:20

-"This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down, and cut off your head ... that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel." 1 Samuel 17:46

-"Joshua destroyed everyone. They did not leave anyone alive." (Joshua 11:14) "They were put to the sword, destroying them all." (Joshua 11:12)

-"Kill every woman." Numbers 31:7

-"Kill every little boy." Numbers 31:7

-"Kill all the infants and suckling babies." 1 Samuel 15:3

"Joshua killed everyone. He did not leave anyone alive." (Joshua 11:14)

-"Devour the nations the lord your god delivers over to you. Show them no pity." Deut. 7:16

-"You must completely destroy them; you shall make no peace treaties with them, and show no mercy to them." Deut 2:1

-"Utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling baby." 1 Samuel 15:3

-"Joshua and the men of Israel had finished slaying them with a very great slaughter, until they were wiped out." Joshua 10:20

-"Put the inhabitants to the slaughter without giving any quarter and burn their town down." Deut. 13:15

Just like many Westerners, you are absolutely misunderstood about Islam, as well as Islamic leaders & Islamic authorities in all poor & developing countries worldwide who uses fraction of verses or apostles' words for their very own agendas.

Thank goodness someone who answered actually knows something about Islam. I am so very, very tired of hearing all of these far-fetched, unproven, paranoid ramblings from people who think they know what Muslims think. I was raised in a Christian religion, and I can guarantee you don't know what I think!! To "me": keep teaching, loving and Peace!

whenever the terrorists talk about the motivation for their attacks they say "America's policies in the middle east" they never say to convert the infidels, they just want the nonbelievers out of their country and out of their holy land, what if THEY had an army base in your neighborhood? What if they blew up all the buildings in your city and called it a liberation?

Because religions do not reflect attitude. Religions anything may it be is not directly proportional to a person's actions. A relationship with God is much better. I believe in the in the bible.

Think about it
