Well im assuming a tachograph is a tachometer, and as in speed, im assuming you mean rpms.
So if the tach is shut off, how do you know if your over reving your engine.
Well, by sound. if you know your car, you can hear the difference in rpms.
#2. If your no longer getting much power to the wheels as you accelerate, then you need to shift into a different gear, because you are redlining.

If you are driving a newer vehicle the speed and engine parameters can be downloaded off the engine computer. Many trucking companies use this method to determine what type of service is needed when the truck returns to the terminal.
