Apple has sold nearly 100 million iPods, far more than any other company, so you're going to hear about more iPod problems than any other brand. Most problems, however, have to do with the fact that the user is computer illiterate, doesn't read the manual, etc. etc,. and not a problem with the player itself. Those people would have problems with any mp3 player, not just iPods.

I am a Soldier deployed to Iraq, and my iPod is the best thing I brought along. I use it for music as well as keeping up with TV shows back home.
Here are the good and bad parts to an iPod:
-Good:
-Easy to use.
-Reliable
-iTunes has a lot of content, and just about any TV show you would want to use
-iTunes has a special format for its music, but iPod will also play any regular MP3.
-Lots of add ons and accessories for iPods.
Bad:
-About the only bad thing I can say has to do with the music format. If you download music to your iPod through iTunes, you can't play it on any other mp3 players. This is ok, since I only use my iPod. But it might bother some people. You can also burn the music to CDs using iTunes, although I never really use CDs any more.
Anyway, I would really recommend getting an iPod. I have the 60GB video, as well as the 1GB iPod Shuffle, for working out.
Hope this helps!

I have owned an iriver and an iPod and I must say the iPod is much better. My iriver would freeze all the time, take a long time to switch between songs, and it would just "lose" songs for no reason. My iPod on the other hand has been great.

iPods are reall nice. i just got one. the only complaint i have about it is that you really can only use apple programs and such to get music and videos and all that stuff. it's just really picky. i have to buy programs such as quicktime pro for videos and movies and not all my wma from before transfer over to iTunes (same with movie clips and stuff). so it's great, if you have all the right stuff and are willing to pay for the programs that go with it(mainly talking about the video iPod).
i've had a few friends go through about3 iPods because theybroke. but they were stupid enough to be careless with them. Isaved up for mine and i'm not about to throw it around like some cheap toy. i plan on mine lasting forever
