i have a red ear slider and was wondering if i could put an algae eater in the tank or some other kind of animal.

Yes you really can in fact they could be friends. Turtles are generally vegetarians(lol) and my school pond has 3 turtles and 20 fishes for 4 years...really! Just make sure that those fishes are not too small...

Turtles eat fish most of the time so thats not a good idea.

Algae eaters tend to do OK, as do things like armored cats or other fast, short-finned fish.

I have fish w/ my slider, but they are larger and are Demseys and Ciclids, and 1 huge algae eater

A BIG algae eater. He might eat a small baby one like the tiny ones they sell in pet stores. Get a plecostomus since they are "armored," and get one that won't fit in his mouth... make sure the tank has filtration also.
