MP stands for Military Police and they operate under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, UCMJ. Their Power and Scope usually is confined to Military Law, not Civil Law. About the only difference is that a trial is called a Courts Martial and there is usually no Jury, just a panel of three to five judges. punishment can include Jail (Brig) to Federal Prison (Leavenworth) and can include Death by firing Squad.
