wolves are part of the delicate balance of nature, they are important to keep the balance of the ecosystem. they just do what their instincts tell them to do, they attact livestocks mainly because the hunting grounds that they used to have are now converted by Greedy ranchers to farms. HUMANS are the main culprit why there are imbalances in the ecosystem. Wild animals (wolves, racoons, squirels) only attact or become agrressive when they become RABID, which is a disease among human and animals.

You obviously know nothing about wolves except the proganda spread by uneducated people. Wolves have never been known to attack people, and since when are livestock part of the ecosysem (you claim they diminish biological diversity). We have nearly wiped the wolf out here in the US, mostly due to their bad reputation. Coyotes are much more aggressive and do attack people occasionally. The only reason we have not slaughtered all of them is because they are highly adaptable to urbanization. Also, as far as livestock goes...they are not part of the ecosystem...it is sad when farmers lose some of their livestock and take a monetary loss due to it, but biologically speaking a wolf is much more important to the planet then some chickens or sheep. And who are all these people you claim are criticized for killing wolves in self dense??? Where exactly are you getting your information? I suggest you do more research before you make false claims.

Wolves do not ONLY attack livestock, and they do not diminish biological diversity. Wolves would much rather not attack livestock, and keep to what they usually hunt. However, much of their hunting grounds have been taken over by farmers, of either caribou, oxen, etc. The wolves will also take down livestock if food around their ecosystem is low. Simply stating, they do this to survive. Wolves also, less than taking down livestock, take down humans. Again, the only reason they would do this is for food supply, or if they are rabid. I agree that people should not criticize those who have killed a wolf in self-defense, I would do the same even as a fellow lover of the wolf. However, it is also somewhat contridictory. Why criticize the wolf for taking down livestock to survive? Kill the livestock to survive, kill the wolf to survive, it is the same thing. However, human beings in nature would get angry with this, because they make a living off raising livestock, so they go out and kill the wolf. However, the wolf makes a living by taking down prey to survive, even if it means taking down livestock. So you see, again it's the same. A wolf would not choose livestock over its natural prey unless it's for their own survival. Humans that are lost in the woods may do severe things to survive. Again, it's the same. In the end, it's all the same.

You are terrible mislead. Wolves have killed livestock and may do so in the future, but that does not justify a blanket condemnation of a predator doing his " job ". The wolf does not diminish biological diversity and would range from his territory long before all game was exhausted, as they need a certain level per square kilometer of game animals. Killed in self defense? I have heard only of one man killed by a wolf, ever. It is that rare. They are generally very shy of humans. They have never been documented hunting humans, despite myth. The reintroduction of the wolf in the contiguous US is a proud moment for all who love true biological diversity I have been a friend and observer of the wolf for 35 years and still to not comprehend attitudes such as yours. Even ranchers I have known who have killed wolves do not seem to take it in the personal manner you do.

Actually, domestication diminishes biodiversity by selective breeding in a closed population.

because they are part of the ego system. They help control populations of small animals. If you get rid of wolves, it affects something else down the food chain.
