You people aren't giving Russia nearly enough credit for its role in World War II. Not only did Russia lose more people than any other nation during the conflict, it held off the German army longer than any other nation. Hitler's continuous determination to defeat Russia cost him tens of thousands of soldiers and an immense amount of war machinery. Russia's insistence on not being overrun kept Germany from being able to focus all of its efforts against forces from the west (Britain, the U.S., etc.). To say they were just a part of a larger Allied effort is to not give the Russians their just due.
As for how a war between Russia and Germany alone would have ended, the fact that Germany never got a firm foothold inside Russia during the entire course of the war should be enough of an answer to that question.

I wouldn't say that Russia "won" WWII. As one of the Allied Powers, Russia certainly helped win WWII, but overall it was a completely joint effort by the US, England, France, Russia, etc. And, Russia's actions after WWII concerning the rebuilding of Germany certainly took away from their good deeds during the war. That's not to say that Russia doesn't deserve their due credit because they absolutely do, but to say they WON the war is a bit of a generic exaggeration.

Little FYI. Russia was supplied with war materials by US and England. Most Russian infrastructure was hit hard. This is not to say that Russia didn't play a very important part in the war. But I think saying that Russia won WWII implies they did it on their own, which is a stretch. But it would of been interesting to see who would win if it was only the Germans against the Russians.

I do not know- one particular battle which was crucial turning point in the war I believe was the battle of Normandy- It required many allies to get the job done. And possib ily had the evacuation of Dunkurk gone differently the allies would have been in trouble. I also believe Russia was never ever good guys during world war 2. They invaded Finland which expelled them from the league of nations.

No, Russia didn't "win World War II." Why do I deny (doubt) this?
The Second World War was also a war against the Japanese empire in Asia. Russia did practically nothing to defeat the Japanese in Asia, and only declared war on Japan on August 9th, 1945.

Yeah it was a team effort, but in my humble opinion, the fate of the second world war was decided by the outcome of Operation Barbarossa.....
A decisive role was played by the USSR, USA, and Britain. THE decisive roll was played by the USSR, go ask its 20 million dead.....
Just to give you an idea of battle deaths on both sides check these out:
EASTERN FRONT:
Stalingrad: 1.8 million
Siege of Leningrad: 1.5 million
Moscow 1941-42: 700,000
Smolensk 1941: 500,000
Kiev 1941: 400,000
Vorenesh 1942: 370,000
Belarus 1941: 370,000
2nd Rzhev-Sychevka: 270,000
Caucasus 1942: 260,000
Kursk: 230,000
Lower Dnieper: 170,000
Kongsberg: 170,000
Rostov: 150,000
Budapest: 130,000
and others with less killed
Whereas on the Western Front
Battle of France 180,000
Normandy: 132,000
El Alamein: 70,000
Battle of the Bulge: 38,000
80% of the German soldiers who died, died on the Eastern Front...
Not even on the same scale....do the math....

No. Russian troops were used as cannon fodder on the eastern front being supplied from the US and other western powers. By opening a second front the Germans collapsed more expeditiously, but the Russians did not "win" the war. The allied powers did.

I would have to disagree. Most of the other answerers have pointed out the specific reasons. Yes, Russia sustained huge casualties in the war, but so did everyone involved. They contributed to the victory over Germany, but as someone else said, WWII also involved Japan...
