A good strong magnet should do it.

Now why would you be so cruel ! The damage has to be to lengths of the tracks which are a series of concentric circles so damage such as scratches going from the edge to the center will have very little effect as there is error correcting data in the cylinders. You would have to spin the cd in your hand with some kind of obscuring material in your hand. You could aerosol the CD with paint. It will be somewhat noticeable. I would strongly avoid loose paint such as whiteout or using sandpaper as you are likely to do serious damage to any CD player that it is introduced to. Small gritty or obscuring particles would damage the lense or head of the CD player. Try buying your grandfather some noise cancelling headphones and if he doesn't use them then you can wear them and play whatever you want from your ipod instead.

If it wasn't for your grandpa you wouldn't even exist!!! I'm sure that his music doesn't bother you any worse than your's bothers him. Get yourself an mp3 player and a headset. Stick'em in your ears and just drown out his music. He's the patriarch of your family, give the old guy the respect he deserves.

I agree with the suggestions of listening to your own music privately (ipod, mp3, personal cd player) rather than vandalising your grandfather's music.

You will not have your grandfather alive with you many more years. Please consider how you will feel during his funeral when what you have to remember about him is how selfish and immature you were about something so extremely petty as music.

Your kindness and regrets last your lifetime, and you will have no way to fix it when he's gone.
