Prostitution goes back to biblical times a single woman selling her body for sex eventually homosexual men started the practice. Sadley aducted teens have been used in forced prostitution. Usually they are from runawyas and parents are looking for them. some are never found sadly to say.they get bought and traded by their pimps and wisked away across the country sometimes out of the country or end up dead. I n biblical times a prostitute if caught was usually stoned to death. In plain english sale of sex for ones pleasure without a relationship.

If you mean "root causes," there tends to be quite a few with many being very tragic. A lot of young prostitutes are addicted to drugs before selling themselves. As their addictions get worse, they cannot hold down their jobs anymore, so they take to the streets to support it.
Another cause is lack of money. Runaways frequently have a hard time finding a job so they sell themselves. I even saw a real T.V. clip where some single mothers (in a very poor neighbourhood) took to the streets to supplement their welfare cheques.
Sometimes it's an abusive relative, boyfriend or husband that sells the girl. (In Vegas a teenager was being sold by her father).
Lastly, there have also been cases where immigrants have been told in their native countries that they will be waitressing. When they come over, they find out that they were lied to by a pimp who is now forcing them to sleep with his customers.

I don't know what you mean, but once on an HBO special about prostitutes and the men that use them a guy said, "you don't pay them for sex, you pay them to leave." I thought that was such a great explanation of why one sees a prostitute that it stuck with me all this time. That could have been ten years ago at this point.
