There have been two recorded instances of a molly mule giving birth, one in China in 1988 and the other in Morocco in 1984. The Moroccan one was bred by a jack donkey, don't know about the Chinese one. I've heard there was one in the US in 1985 but never found any confirmation on it. The odds, however, are unbelievably high against it.
A jackass is a donkey but I know what you mean. A mule or hinny is a sterile hybrid of a horse and donkey. A female horse and male donkey makes a mule, and a female donkey and male horse make a hinny. Neither can reproduce so to get more, you have to repeat the matings. Mules look more like big donkeys and are easy to create, hinnys look more like small horses and are more difficult to produce for some reason. They are simply hybrids, not a separate species.

A jackass is NOT a cross between a donkey and a horse!
A jackass is a male donkey.
You're thinking of a mule, which is sterile, with very rare exceptions.

A femal donkey is called a jennet, or a jenny or jenny ***.
When a jackass mates with a mare, the result is a mule.
When a stallion mates with a jenny, the result is a mule called a hinny.

A jackass is a male ***. A female *** is called a jennet. An *** is a horse type animal.
A MULE is the offspring of a jackass and a mare.
A mare is a female horse.
The two species are not similar enough to have viable offspring, so mules are sterile.
Mules (hinnys) are not made from male horses and female asses that often because jennets are actually quite small and will often die giving birth to a hinny.

Jackass is the male offspring of a male and female donkey(***).
You are confusing them with mules.mules which are off spring of a jack and a mare. The mules are sterile and do not mate. However some female mules have delivered colts.

Man, that's a good question. Out of curiousty, is a mule a part of this picture whatsoever? Okay....once one "species" mates with another of a different "species," the off-spring carries on the genetics. No need to "re-invent the wheel" every single time they "have fun together." I can't help myself but to say, "hee haw." I know that's lame but I'm old and tired tonight. *-*
