Most likely, or at least as we know it to be. After all, in the past people used to trade goods and services for other goods and services. It would be quite difficult I'm sure, but then again there is that whole 'one world currency' thing that's already started with the Euro.....I did pick up on that one when it started ;)

Currently no. What you are talking about would be a total restructure of our society. That kind of change I don't think could ever happen without some kind of really severe traumatic event. I think a society that is built on trade of services could survive pretty well, though it would have to be the start of something new. Like a self contained experimental society within a larger whole. (It's already been done in certain areas.)

We'll find out soon enough - what with all the push for a national Identity Card and the seemingly deliberate inconvenice of check transactions, which is forceing more electronic transactions.
Individuals are rapidly loseing the inconvenience of 'float' but the banks and creditors, in general are not loseing any of their perks such as the ability to swindle millions out of the public with their billing practices like the 'late charge' dodge where the bill arrives too late to avoid late remittance.

Of course. We would first revert to the barter system. Eventually, gold and silver coins would be introduced and we would have money. Hopefully, people at that point would remember how having a central bank, like the federal reserve, allows inflation and depression to be scientifically created, and would stay with real money, which has intrinsic value.

We could survive without currency if we had no choice, but material possessions and favors would replace currency.I like that currency is one of the few things in society that gives us order, even if if does burn a hole in our wallet.

I don't think we could survive right now, but a few decades into the future, I think it could happen.

No, civilization can not go backward but it can destroy itself with greed and indulgence as it is trying to do in this present era.

Yes. They would establish a system of trade. There hasn't always been money, you know.
