i been wanting to get my tongue pierced for the past 5 years, i now turned 17 on jan 1. but my parents wont let me get it. i was planing to get a cleaer tongue ring with the ball. what do you think if i do it myself, because the shop wont do it until im 18 and i cant wait much more. most of my friends have it and i desperatly want it done, it think its cute.

there is a main blood vessel in your tongue, if you hit it, it can kill you!
also, even if you dont hit that, you run the risk of a lot of horrible infection. just wait to get it done by a professional, for your own sake. im sure you dont want to die at 17, right?

you CANT pierer your tongue. unless tou literally want to die! (if you hit one of th ose arteriesn you can get an infection which could go down to your heart and give you a heart infection you can die from, yes this is true...)you dontknow if you have thr right anatomy or not.you dont know where those large veins ar in your tongue.. what if you hit one? your parents will need tot tke you to the emergency room. im sure theyd be happy about that! you will most liekley scew up big time since you do not hav the training. proper sterilization techniques or equiptment... you are just asking for a disater to happen if you do it yourslef.... yeah they can be cute. but you mos tliekly dont know the aftercare. you dontknow what size or metal jewelry to get... to accomidate for all the swelling which is going to make you talk funny for about 4 days... your parents will know. you will need to learn how to eat and talk again. this is w hat everyoen who i know has a tongue piercigns has told me.a nd tou know you arent going to be able to not talk to your parents for 4 days.. they will find out and you cat get a clear retainer. they are not good for healing and are more prone for infection.. (acrylic retainers....) wait another year till you are 18 and and get it done right the first time,....

Don't do it. I was in the E.R. once for a broken wrist, and there was a girl in there with a MAJOR infection because of a stupid tongue piercing. Our brains are not fully developed until age 21. Wait until then to decide. More than likely and hopefully you will change your mind.

The previous note here is from my 12 year old daughter. This is from a 54 year old that has had to remove two of these damned things from infected tongues. I have seen photos in dental journals of what can happen if the infection is not caught in time. I am a dental tech. If you want to take the chance of loosing your tongue then go ahead and do it. But you can not talk with no tongue. Talk to others to tell them how stupid you were. Please do not put your parents through this. Don't let them watch helplessly as your tongue rots out of your head. Don't make them watch you die of some God awful infection. Be smart, if you must do this, then wait until you are 18 then have it done by a pro. I know what it is like to loose a 17 year old child. Your parents do not deserve this young man. Be smart. It only takes a moment to make a decision that you will regret the rest of your natural life, that is if you do not die from it.

OMG, don't be ridiculous. There is a reason you need parental consent. Your risk of infection will skyrocket if you attempt at that yourself. Just be patient and have it done by a professional. It wont kill you to wait a year.

besides what everyone else has said, you could potentially paralyze your tongue. that means you wouldn't be able to speak nor taste for the rest of your life.

do NOT try to pierce your tounge, or let anyone else do it that is not liscensed. you will bleed to death! there are so many veins in your tounge, and even if you do succeed, it will get infected and you will get very sick, please use your brain here, just wait, by next year you probably won't want it anyways
