HEY! I was born a cowboy. Okay, a gay one, but a cowboy first.

I actually am offended by Brokeback Mountain, but not because they are portrayed as cowboys. I'm more offended that they portray gay men to be people who lie to girls and marry wives/have children while screwing a man at the same time. It gives us a bad name.

The film began in 1963. In 1963 gay sex was illegal . Gay men married and had children because it was the accepted thing to do. Even today, people in the country are expected to marry and have kids and, if they stay in the country, they do. These men also cheat on their wives and have sex with men.
It is not a condemnation of the men involved but a condemnation of the society that forces people to behave that way.

There are gay men in every walk of life including cowboys. Why be offended? I think it was a heartbreaking movie that really transcended the gay issue and focused on love and longing and repression and fear. If you are gay and offended then you really don't understand that you don't have to be a hairdresser or landscape artist to be gay. Gays are in every profession straights are in.

I'm not offended by the profession chosen for the protagonists in the film, but rather the violence and deception in their relationship. I am offended that they (and those around them) could not accept who they were, for whatever reason. I am offended there was, and could not possibly be, a happy ending but rather one marred by violence, death, and destruction.
Still, it was a powerful film and has moved many people to examine their feelings about homosexuality, coming to grips with their own bigotry and perhaps relaxing their irrational feelings a bit.

What are you talking about? There are gay people in literally every walk of life, and there are gay cowboys, too. The movie isn't trying to say all cowboys are gay, or all gay men are cowboys- just that these particular two were. It's not offensive at all, but uplifting to see gay men in non-stereotypical walks of life (i.e. not hairdressers or interior designers) falling in love.

No it does not bother me but what does is that in almost evey movie that has gay people in it has one of them dieing a painful death. I would love one that showed them riding off on one horse in to the sunset to live happily ever after

im not offended. the whole marrying thing is just because it was the 60's, and gay people were really just starting to demand rights and such. Sad to say, but there are guys in denial and marry and children, but they are never truly happy IMO.
