You should definitely go with Cingular (recently acquired by AT&T) service.. and when/if you do you will have some pretty amazing choices for phones/smart phones (PDA phones).
I suggest a White D807($79) or the Blackjack($199 w/2yr agreement) or you can wait until June for the iPhone ($499-$599). From experience I would stay away from Motorola's, the user interface is not as easy to use and they have a lot of glitches. The cheapest plan Cingular has is only $39.99 and that includes rollover minutes!! Good luck!

If you have "Cricket" where you live, it will be the best bet for you as a new cell user.

You do have to pay for your phone, but there is a wide variety to choose from. Your bill will be about $50 per month, but that covers incoming and outgoing local and long distance unlimited minutes at any time of the day or night.

It depends... if you live in a metropolitan area, a razor is decent and not too ridiculously expensive and will hold you over until the iphone comes out. (is it already out? if so get it!) Or if you just need a phone to talk on, any is fine. Sometimes you can get on for free.

If you live in anywhere but a city with a population of over 500,000 though don't even bother, your cell phone will never have service when you need it.

a phone with a "sym" card,, its a small chip that holds everything, numbers, names, etc. you can move it from phone to phone without ever hv'ing to reenter your data, new phone reads it immediately (= backs up easy to your computer too in case you lose the phone.

only cingular and t-mobile support the symbian technology right now ((its the norm worldwide, US just late)) nokia manufactures a lot of sym mobile phones.

also, research the return rate on popular phones. razor's have the highest problem rate percentage. maybe becuz more kids buy them and treat em ruff, you cld always pay extra for insurance and get refurb ones if it breaks ((but then you hv to reenter all your info cuz their not sym phones ;p))
