1. People still listen to it because they have been sucked in by things other than the lyrics, such as the beat or the popularity of the rapper.

2. Rockers have beef, but they don't advertise it. I'm not sure about this, but I think that there have been rockers that have dissed each other in their music. There is also probably beef within other genres of music. There have been musicians that have claimed that other musicians have stolen their music. There is also rivalry in other genres of music.

3. I have no idea what happened to Mike Jones. Before he became mainstream, he was decent to me. He was very popular during those days and had many fans. Now he is just a statistic in the group of "bad" rappers.

4. I think the beef between Eazy and Dre was the same. Eazy was making more money while the other N.W.A. members were receiving less money. Dre didn't like this and felt it was unfair. 50 Cent was mad at The Game for befriending his enemies, such as Nas, Fat Joe, and Jadakiss. (This was stupid because Eminem, one 50 Cent's best friends had recently did a song with Fat Joe, the "Lean Back" remix.) 50 Cent called The Game unloyal, and kicked him out of G-Unit. The Game retaliated with many diss songs.
Dr. Dre and Eazy-E made up while Eazy was dying of AIDs. The beef between 50 and Game is still present, but it has died down a lot more.

I don't think beef music is all that stupid. It is just enemies expressing their feelings for each other in music. I think that we have all had some sort of beef in our lives. Beef is everywhere, not just in music.

Hip Hop/Rap is not what it used to be, because it has become commercialised and formulaic (like most things in the world of entertainment). To appreciate when the scene was really good and delivered truly valuable messages, you should go back to the late 80s and 90s - check out people like Gang Starr, KRS 1, Rakim (of Eric B and Rakim fame) and of course you mentioned P.E. already, who were monumental in the contributions to the scene.
