just to add to the general concensus that you have to do very very well in a 4 year undergrad program (should at least shoot for a 3.5 gpa, at least, and an MCAT of 30....these are matriculant averages for ppl attending med school). let me add this though. even if you are from california, it is very very difficult and competitive to get into a calif. school. you have to do very very well in your undergrad and should be a calif. resident. if you are not a resident, then it is closer to impossible, w/ your options being the fewer private schools. many calif. residents apply to many east coast/midwest schools b/c they know the chances of getting into their state school are slim even as a resident. if you don't have absolutely amazing stats as an out of stater, there's no real point in trying (except to those private schools, and only if you have very very good stats). first, do well in school, do well on the mcat, and then find out about your state school, and other schools to apply to that your stats fit at. it is very difficult to say "i want to go to school in NYC", and to end up there, very difficult.
edit: major in whatever you want, as long as you complete general bio, general chem, organic chem, general physics, a year of english, a stats class, and probably something in the social sciences

Well, you misspelled pediatrician, so I doubt you are ready to become one. You do not go from high school directly into medical school; first you go to a four-year college. There you will have an opportunity, while in the upper division, to take a test called the MCAD (MCAT?). This is a test that is supposed to tell the medical schools something about your chances of success, much as the SAT does for undergrad studies. If you have an exceptional GPA and your test scores meet the medical school's minimum cut offs, you then (and only then) have a chance.
By the time you get to this point, you will know what medical schools are anywhere near you; but one of the keys to getting accepted is to apply to more than just one or two schools.
With all that said, Stanford has a very good medical school.
Good luck.

To become a pediatrician, you must get a bachelors degree at a four year university first, and alsot take the MCAT test, get recommendation letters from professors, and get a superb grade point average. You probably should major in something that has to do with science for your undergraduate degree (biology, chemistry, biochemistry etc.) Some good med schools in the west coast are UCSF, Stanford, and UCLA.
