My mother in law found a maggot in her food that she brought home from a restaurant. She went to the "drive thru restaurant" to get her supper, ordered a baked pot. and took it home. She started eating on it and on the second bite, a maggot crawled up her hand. How nasty is that ? What should we do about it ?

Its simple, throw away the rest of the food, and do not eat there again, they have a pest control problem. If I were you I would notify the General Manager.. You can do this by asking the shift manager when the general manager will be around and when you get a chance tell him that you found a maggot in the food and that they should perhaps find a better pest control company. I would leave it at that. I would not yell or scream, that will just make them think your nuts.... Being calm and considerate go a long way

I truly hope that is an overstatement, but guessing it's not, here's how you handle it. Call the restaurant, speak with the general manager, and ask to also speak with the owner. Then immediately call the health department!!!!!!! They will not take that lightly. After that, call your local bbb. Do not assume this only happened to you as it takes a great deal of neglect for maggots to be a problem. There is power in numbers. Speak out, that is unacceptable...especially when you pay for it!!!

A *live* maggot? Almost impossible if the food was cooked. I have prepared meals with edible insects & larvae (not maggots but meal worms and the like) and they die very quickly when heated. Now if you'd said it had been on her fork, dead, or something crawled out of the salad... I'm really sorry but this I'm afraid I have a hard time believing.

First you go to the bathroom and toss your cookies. Then you take the food back and talk to the manger. If the manager is unwilling to do anything about it get the phone number to the corperate office and take it all the way up the chain of comand and talk to the CEO if you have to. More than likely the manager will give you a free meal if you take it back. And even then it would be a good idea to call their corperate office to let them know that that certain chain is selling bad food.

Maggots eat decomposing flesh. I have a hard time believing a live one would actually come in cooked food. There is obviously something more to the story.

If the maggott had been in the food, there certainly would have been more than just one. And it is highly doubtful that it could have survived the temperature of the cooking cycle. Unless she had uncooked condiments on the potato.,it probably came from somewhere else. So, after vomiting, numerous times if it were me, call the health department, and most definately never, ever eat there again.
